Data analysis firm ProximityOne has rolled out a free, no-registration tool that allows users to compare the demographics of one area to those of another.

Called the Demographic-Economic Statistical System (DESS), the tool offers detailed sex, age and race breakdowns, as well as data on area household types and housing occupancy and tenure based on 2010 Census data.

Geographic areas available for comparison include the nation, states, school districts and congressional districts. Similar types of areas may be compared to each other — school districts vs. school districts, for example — or different areas, such as states vs. congressional districts.

Later this summer, ProximityOne plans to offer a mobile application and update DESS with population projections for 2030 and 2060, as well as 36-month ahead projections for population and selected labor force attributes such as employment figures by industry and consumer expenditure breakdowns.

ProximityOne also offers DESS subscriptions that include expanded subject and geographic categories, data downloads and analytics options.
