Hey buyers: Don't worry, be happy!

From Curbed.com blog

A Wharton professor's study found that renters may be happier than homeowners, and here's the kicker: The research is based on data collected before the market soured.

From the professor's summary: "Overall, I found little evidence that homeowners are happier by any of the following definitions: life satisfaction, overall mood, overall feeling, general moment-to-moment emotions, and affect at home. The average homeowner, however, consistently derives more pain (but no more joy) from a house and home."

Oh, I remember my days as a renter and how I could taste owning a home. I hated renting! I hated not being able to decorate the way I wanted to. I wanted a yard to tend and be able to have pets (without sneaking) and a garage.

Maybe home ownership doesn't cure a person's life problems or personality traits, but I was always happier owning my own home vs. renting.

I understand in today's market many feel like owning a home is like throwing money down the drain - the way renting has been described (or making your landlord rich). But I'd rather throw money down my own drain than someone else's.
