New plugin: Zillow, Walk Score, more
From Future of Real Estate Marketing
By Joel Burslem, Friday, August 14, 2009.Great news for those of you who are building your Web sites in WordPress: Zillow has announced the release of the new Local Market Explorer WP Plugin.
The LME plugin, which was built by Jonathan Mabe and Andrew Mattie, developers with Diverse Solutions, automatically creates rich pages on your blog that incorporate data from Zillow, Education.com, Flickr, Walk Score and Yelp.
Zillow has set up some test pages here:
You can download the plugin immediately from the WordPress plugin directory.
A couple of key notes: You'll need separate API (application programming interface) keys for each of the data sources but you can turn on or off which sources you want to incorporate. Also, the plugin does not let create hyperlocal pages (at either a neighborhood or ZIP code level) so you must keep all of your pages at the city level, for now.
Zillow promises future versions that will address these issues. But regardless, this is an instant, dead simple way to instantly create compelling content that your Web visitors are looking for. Organized correctly, you could create a powerfully relevant local resource.

The only problem with using these services is you are supplying links to them. Supplying links to them and now you have to fight them in the search engines. Not a good move to add these to your website

I agree with Mike. As cool as they look, I certainly don't want giving most of these sites a one-way link, especially Zillow. That's why I'm always careful when using a widget or "badge" on my websites.

Judy and Mike-
If you already have all the data on your own site, then yes, there's no reason to link out to someone else. However, that means you maintain that content and have to keep it consistently fresh and accurate for your audience; there is very real cost (your time and energy) to doing that. I'm not recommending either strategy, but that you think through the trade off you are making by choosing to create and maintain that content yourself.
On the "linking out is bad" angle, I'd urge you to read this blog post by Rand Fishkin - http://www.seomoz.org/blog/nailing-the-coffin-shut-on-the-dont-link-out-...
