Slow market offers chance for larger commission

Re: 'NAR crosses swords with DOJ over real estate site' (Oct. 23)
Dear Editor:
This is a great article that I almost totally agree with. I was at the CMLS conference a couple of weeks ago and for the first time heard the DOJ and the FTC side of the issue. It did not change my mind that the lawsuit is ludicrous, but it was nice to hear the other side.
I have been a Realtor for almost 30 years and remember before the MLS how anticompetitive real estate was. What I do disagree with is that the commission base will decline in a slower market. Actually, it is just the opposite; most sellers just want their house sold and will offer more compensation if an agent can make that happen.
