Re: 'NAR approves voluntary restrictions on use of 'MLS' term' (Nov. 19)

Dear Editor:

It seems to me that NAR is going to have to do a heck of a lot more than offer a credit union to its members to placate them. Many have been asking what the benefit of belonging to the organization really is versus the cost. With so many Americans being uninsured, I would think that offering health care for agents would be far more useful. Just a thought?

Dear Editor:

I agree wholeheartedly. John Tuccillo recently spoke in the Twin Cities and pointed out that reporters need to stand out to make a career. Outrageous headlines get attention -- even if only vaguely related to the truth -- and sell stories.

The biggest problem is that even real estate agents and brokers are saying that the market 'sucks.' They are frightened by media, water cooler talk, and lack of initiative. I believe that NAR's numbers show that about 700,000 of our ranks came into the business after 2000. Brokerages encouraged brokerage by the number instead of a level of proficiency.

This market offers incredible opportunity for professional real estate agents and for the public. That's what should be in headlines.
