Grow up to the Internet Age

Re: 'To be or not to be compliant' (Feb. 19)

Dear Editor:

Marc is on it here!

I have for many years battled with content and who had it and how hey were using it. In a quest for control of data and who had it we lose the fact that "more is better." Provided our data is not used at some porn site I am a big supporter of data going everywhere over the Internet platforms.

The IDX data fields, too, need to expand, and lets face it: Holding back the address but still allowing the "map it" button is just foolish. Not allowing links to the brokers' Web sites is foolish, too. It is time to grow up and realize that the Internet is the main source of leads and consumer exposure.

If someone wants the data on my 200 listings, by all means have at it. The day of controlling the consumer by holding data to one or two sites are long over. So we all need to get over it -- and get on with it.

Using (online) tools ... we are putting our homes out there. Integrating ListHub and other tools we are publishing the data far and wide. The more the better. All I ask is a contact back to my Web site, that e-mail be displayed, and for accurate use of my data.

Sellers will demand it if offered more exposure over less. Times have changed and any agent or broker who does not think so is woefully mistaken.
