Renting: A joy for landlords
Letter to the Editor
By Inman News, Wednesday, March 4, 2009.Re: 'Is homeownership a joy or a burden?' (March 3)
Dear Editor:
People say death and taxes are the only staple things, but paying off a mortgage and living in a home debt-free is an experience that more than 33 percent of homeowners have achieved. Ask them if they would do it again.
Though the pains to get there may be too much for some, it is still the best buy and one of the best investments that any American can make. It is the first step for most to financial freedom and the dream of almost the entire world wanting to live in America.
It's a real shame that some of our homegrown product is unable to see the value and overcome marginal efforts. Paying on another's retirement nest egg has only been good for the landlord -- seldom, if ever, for the tenant.

Bill FooksTFT realty Marketing ServiceWarwick, RI http://www.fooksteam.com I am a landlord. I like articles that tell people that renting is better. Where eles but in America can you have someone else payoff your mortgage. Keep the articles coming. That being said, I think everyone who is "capable" should own a home. But if the "fear mongers" want them to rent, send them my way.

In the US, the majority of rental properties are owned by small residential property owners. 10 million of them own less than 50 units – and they provide a great service to individuals who cannot afford properties or do not want the responsibility of owning it. The median age of a tenant is 34 years because young people who are starting off generally rent before ever owning a home.
Needless to say, investing in real estate with a buy and hold strategy is a sure way to build a nest egg.

If you can make it happen, now is a great time to invest in real estate. One or more single family homes, a multi-family unit or commercial real estate. Holding for the long term is the name of the game. Don't forget the most important consideration to any real estate investment, location, location, location.
