When it comes to “home crushes,” as in love, men and women have slightly different tastes, according to a realtor.com survey of 1,000 consumers.
A vast majority of respondents, 69 percent, admitted to having had an infatuation with a house. Women (41 percent), however, were more likely than men (30 percent) to fall for a home they felt was outside of their price range.
Women also develop new house crushes less frequently over a shorter period of time than men, according to the survey. Of the women surveyed, 29 percent said they became infatuated with a new home on a weekly basis, compared with 36 percent of the men surveyed.
However, at longer time intervals, women were more likely to be home promiscuous. On month and quarterly intervals, 26 percent and 17 percent of the women surveyed, respectively, indicated they developed eyes for new homes compared to men who indicated they developed new allegiances 19 percent and 15 percent, respectively, over the same intervals.
Outdoor living spaces were most likely to make both genders swoon, with 54 percent of women and 46 percent of men indicating the amenity made their heart flutter. The second most heart-stopping amenity, however, again revealed some gender differences: 42 percent of women were attracted to open floor plans, while 40 percent of men indicated well-made garages were an important feature for potential housemates to have.
