A drone hobbyist’s 3-pound unmanned vehicle captured footage of the wreckage of a recent explosion in New York City’s Harlem neighborhood that brought down two buildings, NYDailyNews.com reports.
“I mostly use it to shoot real estate or sports events,” the man told NYDailyNews.com about his drone. “This was the first time I used it for breaking news.”
A judge recently threw out the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) ban on commercial drone use, seemingly preventing the FAA from restricting drone use until it drafts formal policies regulating the aircraft.
But the FAA quickly appealed the decision, dampening excitement for professionals hoping to legally supplement their real estate services with aerial photography and video.
