Arizona’s anti-illegal immigration policies and all the controversy they’ve stirred up could also be discouraging legal immigration, holding back population growth and a housing rebound, economist Elliott Pollack tells the Phoenix Business Journal’s Mike Sunnucks.
Sunnucks notes that Arizona ranked 18th for legal migrations into the U.S. in 2012, down from eighth or ninth in Census Bureau statistics dating back to 2005.
“The problem is you need people to fill houses,” Pollack said of projections that Arizona’s population will grow by 1.5 percent next year, compared with 3.3 percent population growth before the recession. Source: bizjournals.com
