Franz-Peter Tebartz-van Elst, a Catholic bishop stationed in Limburg, Germany, was suspended by Pope Francis over a $55 million home renovation done with church funds that included a $21,000 bathtub and a $1.1 million garden. Tebartz-van Elst “could not follow his duty as bishop,” the Vatican said, and so it has suspended him while the church investigates.
