Google and Apple’s smart home rivalry could create headaches for consumers

Apple and Google are both toiling away on smart home technology in an effort to establish themselves as leading providers of the devices and platforms that’ll allow homeowners to control their homes remotely in the future, Mashable reports.

But the possibility that their products will be able to communicate with each other is looking pretty slim. That spells inconvenience for both developers, who will have to design apps for both Apple and Google platforms, and households, who may own both Google and Apple smart devices.
