“Marijuana refugees” — those who move to gain legal access to medical or recreational marijuana — have to navigate the drug’s inconsistent regulatory landscape and often higher home prices to make it happen, CNBC reports.
For example, of the 20 states and Washington, D.C., that have legalized marijuana for some medical uses and the two (Washington and Colorado) that have legalized it for recreational use, none are among the 10 states with the lowest cost of living, according to CNBC.
That setup makes it harder for lower-income residents to make a marijuana-inspired move, including those families with young children suffering from illnesses who could benefit from nonpsychoactive strains of cannabis.
