In addition to providing “walkability,” crime and school info for neighborhoods, cities and ZIP codes, mapping data firm Maponics is rolling out a tool that maps weather conditions at the neighborhood level, giving real estate search portals the ability to add weather estimates to search results.

For example, the tool can give homebuyers insight into summer temperature info or typical winter snowfall volume for a neighborhood.

Unlike other consumer-facing weather models that rely on reporting from local airports and weather stations, Maponics claims that its weather-mapping product, based on data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, NASA, the U.S. Geological Survey and other sources, “is the first comprehensive data model for the United States to provide weather profiles at the neighborhood level.”

The new Maponics tool provides detailed info at the neighborhood level for five weather categories: overall weather, temperature, rain, humidity and sunshine.

“Our Weather Scores product answers homebuyers’ questions like, ‘What is the difference between living in the mountains versus choosing a home in the lower elevations of a particular city, like Phoenix?’ The methods we used capture that level of granularity very well,” said Michael Villarreal, Context product manager at Maponics, in a statement.
