Warren Buffett may stick a toe back into mortgage finance after Fannie, Freddie wind down

Warren Buffett — who unloaded a huge stake in Freddie Mac and a smaller position in Fannie Mae long before the housing boom took off, when the mortgage giants started getting too ambitious for his taste — says Berkshire Hathaway Inc. might get involved in housing finance again once the government’s role in the process has been decided.

Buffett told Bloomberg News that he thinks the government “has to play a part” as an insurer of last resort — for example, the concept for winding down Fannie and Freddie that’s been put forward in the Senate. Source: bloomberg.com.
