Major Chicago-based brokerage @properties announced this week that it has launched a new podcast in which the firm’s founders discuss various industry issues that matter to their agents.

Mike Golden

“The Golden Wong Show” already includes two episodes, which feature discussions between Mike Golden and Thad Wong, who founded the company nearly two decades ago. Amy Corr, @properties’ executive vice president of culture and agent development, serves as the podcast’s host, bringing up questions and topics for Golden and Wong to discuss.

In a statement, Corr said she expects the podcast to have broad appeal across the industry and will offer “valuable, relatable content.”

However, the production is also specifically targeted at @properties roughly 2,800 agents. Speaking of that audience, Corr explained in the statement that connecting to those agents is “really important to Mike and Thad.”

“This format gives them a unique opportunity to do that in a very personal, genuine way,” Corr added.

The first episode of The Golden Wong Show delves into the history of @properties. Over nearly 40 minutes, Wong and Golden breakdown the origins of their collaboration, the background behind their company’s unusual name, how they weathered the Great Recession a decade ago and other topics.

A second episode, which runs about 24 minutes, dives into the role of technology on real estate.

In a statement on the new production, @properites stated that future installments will focus “on marketing, business planning and philanthropy.”

Wong and Golden launched @properties in 2000, and today it describes itself as the largest residential brokerage in the Chicago area, as well as one of the largest firms of its kind in the entire U.S. Earlier this year, @properties teamed up with Georgia-based Ansley Atlanta to give Ansley’s agents access to @properties proprietary technology.

That technology has been a major area of emphasis for @properties, and the company has built its own software suite called “pl@tform.” Users of the system get access to tools for marketing, transaction management and customer relationship management (CRM).

The decision to launch a podcast also comes as real estate professionals increasingly look outside the proverbial box for ways to communicate. Though actual stats are hard to come by, interest in podcasting generally appears to have grown steadily. Meanwhile, some agents have also turned to more exotic formats such as flash briefings for Amazon devices.

In the case of @properties, The Golden Wong Show appears to be off to a strong start; the company said in its statement that the episodes — which are available in the respective stores of Apple and Google, as well as on Spotify and SoundCloud — have been played more than 1,500 times.
