Stephen Fishman received his law degree in 1979 from the University of Southern California. He has worked in private practice, specializing in small business, tax and intellectual property law. He also served as a deputy commissioner with the California Department of Real Estate in the 1980s -- a particularly exciting time for the real estate industry. He is the author of 18 books published by Nolo Press. His books in include "Every Landlord’s Tax Deduction Guide," "Deduct It," and "Working for Yourself: Law & Taxes for Contractors, Freelancers and Consultants." Stephen has worked as a columnist and speaker on legal issues dealing with small business and intellectual property law. He has been quoted in the Wall Street Journal, Chicago Tribune, San Francisco Chronicle and many other publications. He is currently researching a tax guide for real estate professionals.
