After falling 35 percent during the housing downturn, median Realtor income bounced back for the second year in a row, rising 25 percent from 2011 to 2012, to $43,500, the National Association of Realtors reports.

After taxes and expenses, the median income of a sales agent was $22,900, while associate brokers brought home $28,700.

About two-thirds of Realtors (62 percent) with less than two years of experience said they made less than $10,000 a year after taxes and expenses, compared with 21 percent of those with 16 years or more of experience. ¬†Among those with at least 16 years’ experience, 15 percent said they cleared $100,000 or more, compared with 1 percent of Realtors with two years or less in the business.
