The Bush Administration this weekend submitted its nomination of Alphonso Jackson as secretary of the U.S. Housing Department to the Senate Banking Committee. The nomination was made official on Saturday and was forwarded to the Senate committee yesterday, according to the committee’s Web site.
The federal housing agency has a proposed fiscal year 2005 budget of $31 billion.
The committee will schedule a hearing on the nomination after additional paperwork is received.
Jackson meanwhile has the position of acting HUD secretary. He got that nod when former HUD Secretary Mel Martinez resigned Dec. 9.
The change in leadership at the nation’s largest housing agency comes at the same time as forward motion on HUD’s proposal to revise the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act. That proposal has been submitted to the Office of Management and Budget, which has a 90-day review period.
