Web service dives into real estate referral business

NeighborhoodScout, a Web-based neighborhood search engine for home buyers, is introducing the NeighborhoodScout Broker Network, a referral program for real estate brokers who want pre-screened home buyer and seller referrals with no up-front fee.

Brokers can apply on www.NeighborhoodScout.com and, upon application approval, receive pre-screened referrals from home buyers and sellers who work with NeighborhoodScout and specifically ask to be connected with a local broker to transact real estate. Every client is called and confirmed in person by a NeighborhoodScout counselor before being referred to a broker.

“We help home buyers choose neighborhoods in which to buy, and then connect them with select real estate professionals who know the local housing market best,” said Andrew Schiller, president of Location Inc. and a Ph.D. geographer who created NeighborhoodScout. “If your brokerage specializes in relocation and is a member of the ERC, RELO, Cendant Mobility, Prudential Relocation or has received USAA/Affinity training, then you will likely fit well with our clients’ needs,” Schiller said.

NeighborhoodScout’s referral profiles aim to give brokers the information they need to close transactions. Each includes a full profile of the property the client wishes to buy or sell and the exact type of neighborhood in the broker’s area in which the client wants to buy, along with the client’s contact information.

NeighborhoodScout charges a 30 percent referral fee when a referred client buys or sells real estate with a network broker.

Location Inc. is a Massachusetts-based company born of university research, specializing in nationwide relocation services, retail site selection and real estate investment advising.
