Real estate writers to convene in Houston

The National Association of Real Estate Editors marks its 75th anniversary this year with its upcoming annual conference, The World Comes to Houston, scheduled for May 24-27 at the Hilton Americas hotel in Houston, Texas.

More than 100 journalists and industry experts from around the country are expected at the 38th annual conference, with confirmed speakers including visionary land planner Richard Browne, formerly of the Rouse Co., and green building expert Brian Binash.

Conferees will also tour NASA as part of Exploring the Final Frontier, a panel centered on the challenges of defining property rights in space. Texas A&M University will release its findings on Ethnicity & Real Estate on Wed., May 26. NAREE’s popular Meet the Press, also scheduled on May 26, offers freelancers, columnists and public relations professionals a chance to meet with up to a dozen of the world’s leading commercial, residential and financial real estate journalists under one roof in five-minute, one-on-one meetings.

The NAREE conference immediately precedes the International Real Estate Federation (FIABCI) World Congress in Houston, where real estate mogul Sam Zell will speak on Thurs., May 27 at 9 a.m. In addition to his leadership role at Chicago, Ill.-based Equity Group Investments, Zell maintains substantial interests in a multibillion-dollar mix of American businesses, including Equity Residential Properties Trust (NYSE: EQR), Manufactured Home Communities Inc. (NYSE: MHC) and Equity Office Properties Trust (NYSE: EOP). NAREE conferees are invited to attend this keynote session as guests of FIABCI.

NAREE early bird registration rates are in effect with registration fees running $119 for active members and $259 for associates before April 15. A special $99 room rate is available to NAREE members who make their reservations by the end of March at the Hilton-Americas Houston, a 1,200-room luxury hotel that opened in December 2003.

Founded in 1929, NAREE is a professional association for real estate, property finance, home and design editors and writers.
