Realtors pass 1 million mark

It’s official. According to the latest membership data, the National Association of Realtors has broken the 1 million mark. Dues paying membership in the association, its institutes, societies and councils now totals 1,005,785, the association announced today.

More than 100,000 people joined the ranks of Realtors in the past year, and membership stood at 716,078 in 1997. The national association has been the nation’s largest trade and professional association since the 1970s, and it is the first trade association in the country to achieve 1 million members.

“Consumers can find a Realtor to fulfill their real estate needs in virtually every neighborhood and community in the nation,” said Walt McDonald, NAR president and broker-owner of Walt McDonald Real Estate in Riverside, Calif. There are 1,471 local and state Realtor boards and associations.
