FTC seeks new fees for Do Not Call Registry

The Federal Trade Commission is accepting public comments on proposed fee changes for industry access to the National Do Not Call Registry.

Under the new fee structure proposed by the commission, the annual fee for each area code of data accessed would be $45. The maximum amount that any entity would be charged–for access to 280 or more area codes of data–would be $12,375. The first five area codes of data would still be available free, and entities that are exempt from the registry’s requirements would still be able to obtain access at no charge.

Public comments will be accepted on the proposed rulemaking until June 1. Pending public comment, the new fee schedule would go into effect September 1.

A notice of proposed rulemaking will be published in the Federal Register.
