Home sales in western Washington rose 16.5 percent in April from the same month last year, according to the latest figures from the Northwest Multiple Listing Service.
NWMLS brokers notched 7,622 closed sales during April, topping the year-ago total by more than 1,000 transactions. All areas except San Juan and Grant counties reported increases. Closed sales in Grant County matched the year-ago total, while three fewer closings took place in San Juan County.
Prices for last month’s completed transactions areawide are up 8.6 percent from a year ago, with eight of the 14 counties reporting double-digit gains. The median sales price for last month’s closed sales of single-family homes and condominiums was $236,755; a year ago it was $218,000.
For single-family homes only, the median selling price was $245,000, with King County topping the price list. Homes that sold and closed in King County during April commanded a median price of $315,000, which compares to the year ago figure of $289,990 (up about 12 percent).
Average time on market was about the same as a year ago – 66 days versus 67 days. King County claimed the quickest pace of sales, averaging 57 days. Within the 29 sections of King County tracked by NWMLS, homes in the area encompassing Ballard, Greenlake and Greenwood sold at the fastest clip, with an average market time of 31 days.
Kirkland, Wash.-based Northwest Multiple Listing Service covers most of western Washington and has a membership encompassing 1,277 brokerages with around 1,430 offices and more than 16,000 sales associates.
