LandAmerica buys real estate cos.

Richmond, Va.-based LandAmerica Financial Group, through its Lawyers Title subsidiaries, has expanded its presence in California and Illinois with the acquisition of title and escrow companies.

LandAmerica purchased Channel Islands Escrow Inc. in Oxnard, Calif., a move that aims to enhance LandAmerica’s presence in southern California’s Ventura County. Channel Islands Escrow was founded in 1989. Company principal Jan Moore will remain following the acquisition and serve as branch manager and escrow officer.

LandAmerica also purchased Universal Title Services Inc., an Illinois corporation with offices in McHenry and Crystal Lake. Universal Title was founded in 1987. Company principal Thomas A. Terry will remain following the acquisition and serve as vice president and manager of LandAmerica/Universal Title.
