New York community goes wireless

An apartment complex in Watervliet, N.Y., soon will be a wireless community. Sunrise Management & Consulting, a property management company, has contracted with Tech Valley Wireless to provide wireless broadband service to the Highland Club Apartments in Watervliet.

The WiFi broadband infrastructure will enable Highland Club residents to use wireless devices for Internet access, gaming and multimedia from anywhere on the property.

The wireless contract is an example of how people increasingly are using wireless service to connect to the Web. Some real estate offices, such as John L. Scott in the Northwest, have installed wireless networks for their agents and employees.

The Highland Club is a garden style apartment community that features 216 units, a swimming pool and clubhouse with fitness center, basketball courts and billiard room.

Tech Valley Wireless will install the WiFi wireless network throughout the apartment complex and will offer secure Internet access to residents. The service will cost $35 per month for unlimited Internet access. Residents will be able to use the wireless network for multimedia devices, peripherals, digital cameras and gaming devices.

In addition, residents who sign up for Internet access service will be able to use more than 400 WiFi hotspots in the U.S. with no roaming charges, including local hotspots at Albany International Airport and the Armory Center.

“This is a better alternative to residential broadband, one that does more than provide Internet access, it creates a wireless community” said Brian Epstein, president of Tech Valley Wireless. “Now Highland Club residents will have connectivity in their kitchen, by the pool, and while visiting their neighbors.”
