Fannie Mae Foundation awards real estate nonprofits

The Fannie Mae Foundation announced recently the winners of the annual Maxwell Awards of Excellence program.

Created in 1988, the program seeks to reward the work of nonprofit organizations that develop and maintain affordable housing in urban, metropolitan, and rural communities across the country. The awards are named in honor of David O. Maxwell, who retired in 1991 after 10 years of service as chairman and chief executive officer of Fannie Mae. This year’s winning organizations each will receive $50,000.

The following organizations were this year’s winners:

Aletheia House, Birmingham, Ala., for Avondale Gardens.

BRIDGE Housing Corp., San Francisco, Calif., for Mabuhay Court and Northside Community Center. Inman News publisher Bradley Inman is a board member of BRIDGE Housing.
