Real estate purchases increase slightly

Overall mortgage purchases increased 1.8 percent on a seasonally adjusted basis, according to the Mortgage Bankers Association’s weekly survey.

The MBA seasonally adjusted purchase index increased by 0.2 percent to 456.6 from 455.7 the previous week. The seasonally adjusted refinance index increased by 4.1 percent to 2,052.5 from 1,972.5 one week earlier.

The refinance share of mortgage activity increased to 44.5 percent of total applications from 43.2 percent the previous week. The adjustable-rate-mortgage share of activity increased to 33.1 percent of total applications from 33 percent the previous week.

The average contract interest rate for 30-year fixed-rate mortgages decreased to 5.66 percent from 5.68 percent one week earlier. Points including the origination fee decreased to 1.29 from 1.36 the previous week for 80 percent loan-to-value ratio loans. 

The average contract interest rate for 15-year fixed-rate mortgages decreased to 5.02 percent from 5.03 percent one week earlier. Points including the origination fee decreased to 1.3 from 1.38 the previous week for 80 percent loan-to-value ratio loans.

The average contract interest rate for one-year adjustable-rate mortgages increased to 3.89 percent from 3.86 percent one week earlier. Points including the origination fee decreased to 1.03 from 1.2 from the previous week for 80 percent loan-to-value ratio loans.
