Tech exec proud not to be an attorney

Eric Antonow, president and CEO of Katabat in Chicago has developed the company into a leading provider of Web site and outsourced technology services for real estate companies. Katabat’s lead management system for brokerages offers insight about lead sources, conversion rates, and individual agent progress, among other things.

Antonow previously was director of corporate strategy for Giant Step, an e-commerce strategy and services provider, and led its growth from 30 to 250 people, with almost $30 million in revenue in less than three years. He founded Giant Step’s consulting practice and oversaw e-commerce strategy and project delivery on key clients such as General Motors, United Airlines, P&G, Maytag and others. He attended the University of Michigan and received his MBA from Kellogg Graduate School of Management, where he regularly lectures on e-commerce, entrepreneurship and marketing.

A very large drum.

What style of home do you live in and when did you buy it?

Vintage apartment, five years ago.

Where did you spend your last vacation?

Stinson Beach, Calif.

What professional accomplishment in your life are you most proud of?

That I’m not an attorney, despite genetic tendencies. Alongside building a few successful companies and retail operations, I’ve been able to balance that life with producing an award-winning film festival, directing a critically acclaimed play and producing a bestselling poetry recording with a former poet laureate. 

What personal accomplishment in your life are you most proud of?

My wife, my son, my brothers as close friends.

How many e-mail addresses do you have?

Four that I remember, one that I don’t.

What worries keep you awake at night?

The absence of mystery from everyday life.

What lesson did you learn in the last year?

Atrophy is everywhere. Everything of value you have to continually cultivate.

What is your favorite technology device or software application?

My electric pick-up for my ukulele or Typepad.com.

What is your opinion of Inman News?

It’s eponymous.

What was the best gift you ever received from or gave to someone else?

A ring from my father.

What was your top New Year’s resolution and have you kept it so far?

Not to celebrate New Years with the same people I did last year. Yes.

Are you a morning person or a night owl?

Both.

What is your worst vice or bad habit?

A growing collection of pork recipes.
