RE/MAX real estate franchises top records

Year-end statistics for 2004 at RE/MAX International show unprecedented growth for the global real estate franchise network, the company said Monday. A total of 13,167 new associates joined the network, bringing the year-end total to 100,492, a 15.1 increase over the previous year.

Franchise sales topped all previous records at 1,032, a 27 percent increase over 2003 sales. On Dec. 31, 2004, 5,401 RE/MAX offices were operating in 52 countries, with the Czech Republic representing the 53rd country in mid-January 2005.

The largest number of franchise sales for 2004 occurred in the California region with 54 new sales. Second was Scotland with 53 and New England finished third with 51. The Florida and Australia regions each had 35 sales, and Spain sold 33 new franchises.

Regions in the United States accounted for 473 of the 1,032 franchise sales, Europe had 409, and the remaining 150 sales came from around the world.

Five new countries joined the RE/MAX network in 2004, including Lebanon, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, Argentina and Croatia.

The largest agent growth occurred in California with 1,012 new associates. Second was a tie with Ontario, Canada and the Southwest each adding 747, followed by 744 in Central Atlantic, 733 in New England and 632 in Florida.
