The National Association of Real Estate Editors is accepting applications from real estate journalists, including editors, freelance writers and staff reporters, for the NAREE Bivins Fellowship, a mid-career program for active journalists.
The NAREE Bivins Fellowship can provide funds for a time of special study or the pursuit of a special project. The fellowship is a mid-career grant that enables journalists to be enriched with a study that will enhance their ability to cover real estate topics.
Prior winners have studied green building and conducted a computer-assisted research project. The fellow’s work can be self-directed or linked with a university or professional association.
Sept. 15, 2005 is the deadline to postmark your application for the $3,500 NAREE Bivins Fellowship. The winner – or winners – will be announced Friday, Oct. 28, at the NAREE Installation & Awards Dinner in San Francisco, during the National Association of Realtors annual convention.
The NAREE Bivins Fellowship for professional development was created for active members of the National Association of Real Estate Editors. However, journalists who are not currently members of NAREE are welcomed and encouraged to apply.
There is no charge for NAREE active members to enter. Non-members pay a fee of $75, which can be applied to membership dues.
The fellowship is named for NAREE past president Ralph Bivins, a veteran journalist, to honor his years of devotion to the group.

The fellowship applications again will be judged by the faculty of Northwestern University under the direction of Prof. George Harmon, who directs the business writing program at the university’s Medill School of Journalism.
