Real estate sales hot in Austin

Home sales in the Austin, Texas, area jumped 17 percent in July from a year ago, the Austin Board of Realtors reported Wednesday.

Realtors reported that 2,560 single-family homes sold last month, up from approximately 2,188 sold in July 2004.

The median sale price of a single-family home was $169,740 in July, a 5 percent increase from a year ago.

Townhouse/condominium sales jumped 43 percent above last year, finishing at 277. Farm/ranch properties enjoyed a booming 53 percent increase in sales, selling for a median price of $185,000, which represents an annual gain of 16 percent.

The Austin Board of Realtors is a non-profit, voluntary organization representing more than 6,500 licensed Realtors in Central Texas.
