Realtor Safety Week kicks off Sept. 11

The third annual Realtor Safety Week is slated for Sept. 11-17, the National Association of Realtors said today.

Safety is a big concern for Realtors in the wake of reports of shootings of agents working in the field. A recent NAR survey showed that more than 54 percent of all respondents reported that they had experienced safety concerns, incidents or harassing situations on the job.

The purpose of Realtor Safety Week is to promote learning and discussion among Realtors about the safety challenges they face, and offering possible solutions to high-risk situations and dealing with unexpected danger. NAR established Realtor Safety Week in 2003 to promote safety awareness among its members and to provide training resources that can be used year round.

NAR’s more than 1,600 state and local Realtor associations have been encouraged to support this effort in their communities with the assistance of a specially designed Realtor Safety Week Kit provided to them by NAR in late July. “The safety of our more than 1 million members is always a top priority for NAR,” said NAR President Al Mansell, CEO of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage in Salt Lake City.

NAR’s safety tool kit contains suggestions for creating a safety presentation for agents; safety resources, tools, tips and scenarios; office safety forms; and a CD with downloadable documents. New this year is suggested safety articles for association newsletters and e-mail updates. “The kit makes it easy for our associations to share important safety messages with our members, both during this important week and throughout the year,” said Mansell.
