Real estate lender goes the extra mile to teach consumers

The eBus, a mobile financial classroom, is rolling into Washington, D.C., today thanks to financial services company BB&T and mortgage giant Freddie Mac.

The unique, 40-foot BB&T eBus, a modern, mobile financial classroom, will offer visitors financial education and valuable information regarding home ownership, BB&T said. It will tour the Capital region to bring home-ownership education directly to people where they live and work, the companies said.

The Capital region tour kicks off this morning at Union Square Plaza in Washington, D.C., in a ceremony attended by senior regional executives and mortgage banking officers from BB&T, as well as officials from Freddie Mac, the Community College Foundation and several D.C.-Metro-area civic and governmental leaders.

Through its partnership with Freddie Mac and The Community College Foundation, BB&T is using the eBus to bring the mortgage lending process to thousands of individuals in low- to-moderate-income communities served by the bank, the company said.

Event participants will include: Luis Lobo, president of BB&T’s D.C. Metro Region; Craig Nickerson, Freddie Mac vice president of Expanding Markets/National Initiatives; Gustavo Velasquez, executive director of the Office of Latino Affairs of the Government of the District of Columbia; as well as representatives of Community Connect with The Community College Foundation; and BB&T CRA/Community Development officers.

“By visiting the eBus, interested parties will be able to gain access to home-ownership education and credit counseling that will prepare them for the responsibilities of owning a home and becoming financially literate,” the companies said.
