Google exec. traces roots to Vibe magazine

As head of local advertising at Google, Justin McCarthy is responsible for leveraging Google’s volume of real estate searches for top real estate companies. To date, Google has enjoyed productive relationships with leading real estate companies.

McCarthy joined Google from DoubleClick, where he was general manager of entertainment and travel networks and responsible for leading the business development and advertising sales effort behind DoubleClick’s entertainment and youth network. In that role, McCarthy managed partnerships and directed advertising relationships with top tier customers. 

McCarthy has held sales and marketing positions at other media companies, including: The New York Times Co., Time and Hartford Media.

McCarthy earned a bachelor’s in English from Trinity College.

McCarthy will speak during Real Estate Connect in New York City, Jan. 11-13, 2006.

Here are his answers to a set of questions posed by Inman News:

What kind of house did you grow up in and where?

Brownstone in Brooklyn, N.Y.

What style of home do you live in today and when did you buy it?

Brownstone in Brooklyn. (It’s a different one that I bought two years ago.)

Describe your dream home:

A bungalow in Costa Rica with the backyard facing rainforest, and the front yard facing the ocean.

What was your first job?

Post-college, my first job was as an intern at Vibe magazine, which at the time was a test magazine in search of funding.

Which daily newspaper do you read and which section do you read first?

The New York Times business section, and the New York Post business section – it’s a tie.

Where did you spend your last vacation?

Costa Rica.

What are your favorite technology devices or software applications?

TiVo, iPod, Google Desktop – in that order.
