Real estate search engine co-founder has roots in online travel

Pete Flint co-founded Trulia.com with Sami Inkinen in 2004 while they were studying for their MBAs at Stanford University. Trulia is a real estate search engine that aims to help consumers find real estate information across the Web and allow them to connect directly with sales agents and brokers.

Flint and Inkinen say they worked closely with real estate agents and brokers to understand their needs as well as leading computer scientists to build the service.

Flint was born in London, and has also worked for LastMinute.com, Europe’s largest online travel service, IBM and Battery Ventures. He holds a Masters and first class undergraduate degree in physics from the University of Oxford and an MBA from Stanford.

Trulia.com was launched in September 2005.

Flint will speak during Real Estate Connect in New York City, Jan. 11-13, 2006.

Here are his answers to a set of questions posed by Inman News:

Panel or session at Connect: The Web Lead Machine: What Consumers are Doing on the Internet.

What type of home did you grow up in and where?

I grew up just outside of London. I had a great childhood, my parents were academics and so there were always lots of intellectual discussions.

What worries keep you awake at night?

Building a great product for consumers, agents and brokers and not having time to catch up on my e-mails.

Describe your dream home:

It changes, but right now it would be a San Francisco town house with a view over the bay.

Which daily newspaper do you read and which section do you read first?

I get most of my news online these days, but when I do buy newspapers I read the Wall Street Journal, New York Times and Economist. I generally read the business sections and if possible follow the English soccer league.

Where did you spend your last vacation?

Rome, Italy.

What professional accomplishment are you most proud of?

Building a great team, launching Trulia.com and having fun.

Who are your heroes?

I have many, some of them are: my parents, Steve Jobs, Gandhi and John F Kennedy.
