Real estate sales fall in Massachusetts

Home sales in Massachusetts sank for the third consecutive month in November, while prices gained slightly over their year-ago levels, the Massachusetts Association of Realtors reported.

Sales of detached single-family homes totaled 3,713 in November, down 9.2 percent from 4,089 sales posted in November 2004, the association reported. The November 2005 figure was down 4.3 percent from October’s 3,880 sales.

Sales of condominiums edged up 1.4 percent from a year ago, with Realtors reporting 1,622 closings in November compared with 1,599 in November 2004. The November 2005 figure fell 8.8 percent from October’s 1,779 sales.

The median price of a single-family home in the Bay State in November was $354,000, up 2.3 percent from $345,900 a year ago and up from October’s price of $347,950. The median condo price rose 0.8 percent during the same period, from $263,000 in November 2004 to $265,000 in November 2005, but was down 2.3 percent from October.
