Overnight real estate rates come down

Long-term mortgage interest rates were lower Tuesday, and the benchmark 10-year Treasury bond yield dipped to 4.57 percent.

The 30-year fixed-rate average fell to 5.81 percent, and the 15-year fixed-rate slipped to 5.46 percent. The 1-year adjustable was up slightly at 4.61 percent.

The 30-year Treasury bond yield edged up to 4.53 percent.

Mortgage rate figures are according to Bankrate.com, which publishes nightly averages based on its survey of 4,000 banks in 50 states. Points on these mortgages range from zero to 3.5.

In other economic news, the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 46.26 points, or 0.42 percent, finishing at 11,069.06. The Nasdaq fell 19.4 points, or 0.85 percent, closing at 2,262.96.
