Partnership aims to secure real estate data

Real estate software provider Rapattoni Corp. has partnered with RSA Security to provide online data security for multiple listing services and real estate associations, the companies announced today.

Under the partnership, Rapattoni will incorporate RSA SecurID technology into its Rapattoni Secure Logon program, helping an MLS or association to establish the identity of a person accessing data online.

Rapattoni’s Secure Logon program provides security for users accessing Internet-based MLS systems. RSA SecurID provides authentication tokens, which are small devices that fit on a keychain and display a six-digit numeric passcode that changes randomly every 60 seconds. Users enter the passcode along with a traditional password to access data online.

Because users provide something they know (their password) and something they have (the token’s random passcode), the system helps to ensure that data are available only to authorized users. The traditional model of the token displays a passcode, which the user manually enters. In addition, USB-enabled tokens allow users to connect the device to a computer’s USB port, and have the passcode automatically submitted.

“As the industry works to fend off constant threats to private data, it is critical that MLSs and other real estate organizations have both choice and access to the most proven solutions on the market,” said Toffer Winslow, vice president of product marketing and management at RSA Security. “Rapattoni’s reputation as a trusted service provider to the real estate industry is outstanding, and we expect this partnership to enable both companies to more effectively meet the needs of the industry.”
