San Francisco, meet Curbed

Curbed SF, an offshoot of popular New York real estate blog Curbed.com, has arrived. It’s all part of a plan to kick the Curbed concept around to other communities across the country.

Four months ago the folks at Curbed.com launched Curbed LA, a Los Angeles-focused blog that follows in the witty, sometimes satirical, often insightful, and largely gossipy style of the original Curbed blog.

The San Francisco site, http://sf.curbed.com, which went live today, was in development for several months and is written by San Francisco residents Philip Ferrato and Alison Laichter, according to Curbed.com national editor Josh Albertson.

The site description: “From the Golden Gate to Twin Peaks to The Mission, San Franciscans are all about their neighborhoods, real estate, and their unique sense of what it means to live in this city.”

Among some recent topics addressed in the upstart San Francisco-branded Curbed site: A taco truck named “La Pachanguerra,” a $1.6 million house with one bedroom, a parking-garage controversy, a development proposal at Pier 45, and a pitch for a theme park, studio, retail stores and a luxury hotel at the site of the former West Oakland Army Base.

A blog post at the site states, “Today Curbed SF launches, joining Curbed NY and Curbed LA, perhaps best described as the blogs for real estate whores. Like our sister sites, we aim to cover this city’s construction, destruction, architecture, food, drink, and, most of all, its neighborhoods. And we’d prefer to do it collaboratively. Welcome to our world.”

Lockhart Steele, a Massachusetts native who moved to New York in 1996, is the creator of Curbed.com, which launched in New York in May 2004. Steele is also managing editor of Cottages and Gardens magazine.
