Georgia couple arrested in alleged mortgage fraud

A Georgia man and his girlfriend have been arrested for mortgage fraud, police officials said.

Ajesh Shretta, 33, and his girlfriend, Angela Keaton-Goodin, 40, both of Sandy Springs, Ga., were arrested in connection with an alleged mortgage fraud case that involved a property at 163 Flat Shoals Ave., in Atlanta, according to the Gwinnett County Police Department.

Warrants for the two were obtained April 7 and April 28, and the two were subsequently arrested, police said.

Investigators with the Computer Crimes Squad of the Gwinnett County Police Department are currently investigating the case, officials said.

The police department alleged that on Feb. 7, Shretta purchased the property at 163 Flat Shoals Ave. in Atlanta, Ga., for $200,000. The home was purchased at the Law Office of Patterson and Kaye in Duluth, Ga., officials allege.

Shretta allegedly purchased the home in the name of Naim Sayed without Sayed’s permission or authorization, officials say. Sayed and Shretta were former business partners, according to the police department.

Keaton-Goodin allegedly received a check at the closing in the amount of $12,000. According to the HUD-1, Keaton-Goodin received the check for a payoff, but there was no legitimate explanation as to why she received $12,000, officials allege.

The police department said that on April 7 warrants were obtained for Shretta for Georgia Residential Mortgage Fraud and Identification Fraud, and on April 28, a warrant was obtained for Angela Keaton-Goodin for Georgia Residential Mortgage Fraud.

Shretta allegedly purchased at least four houses in Sayed’s name and was in the process of purchasing several more when he was arrested, officials said.

Shretta’s arrest was a result of a joint investigation involving Dawson County, Fulton County, Gwinnett County and the City of Atlanta. The State of Georgia Attorney General’s office will be prosecuting the case in Gwinnett under the State RICO statute, officials said.
