Overnight real estate rates up for 7th day

Long-term mortgage interest rates were up again Tuesday, and the benchmark 10-year Treasury bond yield dipped to 5.2 percent.

The 30-year fixed-rate average inched up to 6.39 percent, and the 15-year fixed-rate increased to 6.09 percent. The 1-year adjustable was up at 5.48 percent.

The 30-year Treasury bond yield decreased to 5.23 percent.

Mortgage rate figures are according to Bankrate.com, which publishes nightly averages based on its survey of 4,000 banks in 50 states. Points on these mortgages range from zero to 3.5.

In other economic news, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 120.54 points, or 1.09 percent, finishing at 10,924.74. The Nasdaq lost 33.42 points, or 1.57 percent, closing at 2,100.25.
