North Carolina retail plaza sold

Cushman & Wakefield brokered the sale of Akers Shopping Center in Gastonia, N.C., for an undisclosed price.

New York-based DLC Management Corp. purchased the 240,957-square-foot property from Kimco Realty Corp.

Constructed in 1977 and renovated in 1990, the shopping center was anchored by a 62,900-square-foot Hobby Lobby, a 45,000-square-foot Toys “R” Us and a 28,355-square-foot Steve & Barry’s — plus a “shadow” anchored Target — at the time of sale.

“The sale of Akers Shopping Center affirms Gastonia’s continued growth on the western side of Charlotte and the continued strong demand for multi-anchored retail in North Carolina,” said Kris J. Cooper, a senior director and team leader at Cushman & Wakefield.
