Little rise in overnight real estate rates

Long-term mortgage interest rates inched higher Thursday, and the benchmark 10-year Treasury bond yield fell to 4.64 percent.

The 30-year fixed-rate average edged up to 5.78 percent, and the 15-year fixed rate gained to 5.5 percent. The 1-year adjustable stayed at 5.61 percent.

The 30-year Treasury bond yield sank to 4.82 percent.

Mortgage rate figures are according to Bankrate.com, which publishes nightly averages based on its survey of 4,000 banks in 50 states. Points on these mortgages range from zero to 3.5.

In other economic news, the Dow Jones Industrial Average plummeted 147.74 points, or 1.11 percent, finishing at 13,215.13. The Nasdaq was down 42.6 points, or 1.65 percent, closing at 2,533.74.
