Overnight real estate rates ride higher

Long-term mortgage interest rates were up for the seventh straight day on Monday, and the benchmark 10-year Treasury bond yield fell to 4.78 percent.

The 30-year fixed-rate average edged up to 5.9 percent, and the 15-year fixed rate gained to 5.6 percent. The 1-year adjustable stayed at 5.67 percent.

The 30-year Treasury bond yield dipped to 4.94 percent.

Mortgage rate figures are according to Bankrate.com, which publishes nightly averages based on its survey of 4,000 banks in 50 states. Points on these mortgages range from zero to 3.5.

In other economic news, the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 13.65 points, or 0.1 percent, finishing at 13,542.88. The Nasdaq was up 20.34 points, or 0.8 percent, closing at 2,578.79.
