Overnight real estate rates get boost

Long-term mortgage interest rates were up again Wednesday, and the benchmark 10-year Treasury bond yield dipped to 4.97 percent.

The 30-year fixed-rate average rose to 6.12 percent, and the 15-year fixed rate grew to 5.82 percent. The 1-year adjustable dropped to 5.55 percent.

The 30-year Treasury bond yield was down at 5.08 percent.

Mortgage rate figures are according to Bankrate.com, which publishes nightly averages based on its survey of 4,000 banks in 50 states. Points on these mortgages range from zero to 3.5.

In other economic news, the Dow Jones Industrial Average plummeted 129.79 points, or 0.95 percent, finishing at 13,465.67. The Nasdaq was down 24.05 points, or 0.92 percent, closing at 2,587.18.
