Real estate rates rise overnight

Long-term mortgage interest rates were up Friday, and the benchmark 10-year Treasury bond yield climbed to 4.24 percent.

The 30-year fixed-rate average climbed to 5.88 percent, and the 15-year fixed rate gained to 5.46 percent. The 1-year adjustable rate was up at 5.58 percent.

The 30-year Treasury bond yield edged up to 4.66 percent.

Mortgage rate figures are according to Bankrate.com, which publishes nightly averages based on its survey of 4,000 banks in 50 states. Points on these mortgages range from zero to 3.5.

In other economic news, the Dow Jones Industrial Average tumbled 178.11 points, or 1.32 percent, finishing at 13,339.85. The Nasdaq lost 32.75 points, or 1.23 percent, closing at 2,635.74.
