Nightly real estate rates inch up

Long-term mortgage interest rates ticked higher Thursday, and the benchmark 10-year Treasury bond yield climbed to 3.89 percent.

The 30-year fixed-rate average gained to 5.54 percent, and the 15-year fixed rate rose to 5.05 percent. The 1-year adjustable rate was up at 5.35 percent.

The 30-year Treasury bond yield rose to 4.45 percent.

Mortgage rate figures are according to Bankrate.com, which publishes nightly averages based on its survey of 4,000 banks in 50 states. Points on these mortgages range from zero to 3.5.

In other economic news, the Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 117.78 points, or 0.92 percent, finishing at 12,853.09. The Nasdaq rose 13.97 points, or 0.56 percent, closing at 2,488.52.
