Nightly real estate rates come down

Long-term mortgage interest rates dipped Tuesday, and the benchmark 10-year Treasury bond yield held fell to 3.57 percent.

The 30-year fixed-rate average sank to 5.47 percent, and the 15-year fixed rate slipped to 4.95 percent. The 1-year adjustable rate, however, rose to 5.07 percent.

The 30-year Treasury bond yield was down at 4.33 percent.

Mortgage rate figures are according to Bankrate.com, which publishes nightly averages based on its survey of 4,000 banks in 50 states. Points on these mortgages range from zero to 3.5.

In other economic news, the Dow Jones Industrial Average plunged 370.03 points, or 2.93 percent, finishing at 12,265.13. The Nasdaq lost 73.28 points, or 3.08 percent, closing at 2,309.57.
