Nightly real estate rates shoot higher

Long-term mortgage interest rates rose sharply Monday, and the benchmark 10-year Treasury bond yield was up at 3.9 percent.

The 30-year fixed-rate average climbed to 6.08 percent, and the 15-year fixed rate increased to 5.55 percent. The 1-year adjustable rate gained to 4.93 percent.

The 30-year Treasury bond yield rose to 4.66 percent.

Mortgage rate figures are according to Bankrate.com, which publishes nightly averages based on its survey of 4,000 banks in 50 states. Points on these mortgages range from zero to 3.5.

In other economic news, the Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 189.2 points, or 1.53 percent, finishing at 12,570.22. The Nasdaq was up 24.13 points, or 1.05 percent, closing at 2,327.48.
